CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Skin cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer.  But the incidence of skin cancer among young women and elderly men has risen over the last several decades.

Dr. Richard White, a skin cancer specialist at levine cancer institute, says he now considers sun exposure a "toxin" and wishes more young people viewed it that way.  he says there are several reasons young women are more at risk.

"The young women almost certainly because of tanning bed exposure and sun exposure in their teen years and the  older  guys because they're out in the sun playing golf, tennis and doing yard work without sun protection," said White.

As summer approaches, white has a message to young women.

"You wouldn't smoke 22 cigarettes in an hour..why would you lie in  a tanning bed?"
