CONCORD, N.C. -- There are some big sporting events in the Charlotte area this weekend, and the folks running them say they are taking extra precautions to keep you safe.

At the zMAX Dragway in Concord, drag racing got underway Friday morning.

Bomb sniffing dogs and police were spotted throughout the property.

Speedway spokesperson Scott Cooper said "We're in constant contact with federal, state and local officials. We've changed a few things for this weekend, and there are some security measures that are going to be very visible and some are not, and that's very intentional."

Racing ended abruptly around four Friday afternoon because of the weather, but is expected to start back up on Saturday.
