STATESVILLE, N.C. -- The doors to Front Street Baptist Church were open all day Thursday for members could come and grieve.

Six parishioners were killed Wednesday in a bus wreck near Knoxville, Tennessee on Interstate 40.

Among those killed were Randolph and Dianne Morrison.

"Well it's pretty rough on me right now because they was just like my family to me," said Velma Sherill, a neighbor who lived next to the couple for 32 years.

A makeshift memorial had been placed in front of the church and Associate Pastor Rick Cruz talked about the loss Thursday afternoon.

"Obviously we want to continue to pray for each one of them. Again, we are very appreciative for the outpouring of support that we've been receiving from numerous organizations, individuals," he said.

Some of that support will come from N.B. Mills Elementary -- several church members volunteered there.

"Our staff is having a really tough time with it, in turn our kids are too. I think once identification becomes available I think it has the potential to get worse before it gets better," said Dawn Creason, spokesperson for Statesville-Iredell Schools.

First and third graders at the school have made posters and cards that will be sent to the church.
