CLOVER, S.C.  -- Students at Kinard Elementary School were treated to a raucous pep rally Tuesday featuring Panthers guard Travelle Wharton, tight end Richie Brockel and wide receiver Domenik Hixon.

“The energy level was unbelievable when we first stepped into the building,” said Wharton.

After winning the American Red Cross’ “Holiday Mail for Heroes” program, fifth grade student Alexis Bono was awarded the pep rally for her school.

“It’s kind of overwhelming,” Bono said.

Bono drew a holiday card with featuring an American flag with the statement, “We are proud of you. Happy Holidays.”

The Red Cross, the Panthers and USO of North Carolina selected Bono’s card from a group that included cards from seven local schools.

Five-thousand military families across the Carolina will receive the card for the holidays.
