CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A former Charlotte-Mecklenburg officer is not appealing his termination.
Former homicide Detective Arvin Fant was placed on leave last August, and then ultimately fired, after details emerged that he discarded notes about the murder investigation of two CMPD officers that occurred in 2007.
The Charlotte Observer reported that Fant’s attorney said he will not be appealing the termination.
Fant admitted in court that he used another officer’s notes to recreate his own and refresh his memory on the case.
A judge ruled last August that Demeatrius Montgomery, charged with killing Officer Jeff Shelton and Officer Sean Clark, would not face the death penalty due to Fant’s misstep.
Montgomery is currently serving life in prison.
