CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Crews from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Utility Department were able to fix a water main break on Park Road that left many without water on Thanksgiving Day.

The outage affected those who live on Park Road near Marsh Road and the Park Road Shopping Center.

"Wake up in the morning and you need water and you don't have it and you get a trickle," said neighbor Vinay Logan Harden.

And that's how Thanksgiving morning started for neighbors off Park Road after a water main break down the street.

"My husband is standing there looking at the water it's going lower and lower, so I said well put it in a container, don't just let it run out," said Barbara Pecce while visiting her daughter.

Neighbors had to improvise to get their holiday started.

"I actually went to my office to shower we actually have somewhere I can use there so made it a little easier," said neighbor Liz Garofalo.

"We went out this morning and purchased 18 gallons of water and I think we've already gone through about half of that," said Christine Weiss.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Utility Department says when the temperatures drop in the 20's like Wednesday night the pipes can freeze and break.

CMU sent a crew out to start digging so they can survey how bad the damage underneath actually is. Many families were already planning on going elsewhere for their turkey meal.

"No we aren't worried because we aren't going to stay here all day," said Pecce.

While others who are cooking at home are just staying optimistic and thankful for what they do have.

"We're thankful the oven still works and we're warm inside today since it's cold so it's an inconvenience but it's not going to ruin the day," said Garofalo.
