CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Bob Dotson is a 38-year veteran of NBC News and is most well-known for his compelling stories on the TODAY Show.

He says “the difference between two people, no matter how different, is a good story. His mission has been a “lifetime search for ordinary people doing extraordinary things.”

Dotson has been crisscrossing the country—logging more than four million miles—in search of people who have quietly but profoundly changed our lives and our country for the better.

Bob's new book, "AMERICAN STORY, a Lifetime Search for Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things" has been released and presents a road map to the unsung heroes with thoughtful solutions to problems we all face, incredible ideas that work, and blueprints to living our dreams.

This morning on Larry’s Look, Dotson talked to Larry about his career and the new book.

He mentioned how much he enjoyed the travel, but most importantly how meeting people and telling their stories was what he really enjoyed.

He was asked about his favorite interview and mentioned how that became the inspiration for the project.
