CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Today on Larry’s Look, we were joined by Jorge Ortega, vice president of operations  at the Humane Society of Charlotte.

He brought with him a very special dog, rescued from a puppy mill in South Carolina. Her name is Godiva and she’s  paralyzed from the abuse at the illegal puppy mill.

Jorge designed a device with two wheels so that Godiva can actually move around.

Another topic this morning was the issue of giving pets as presents at Christmas. If someone receives an animal they are not ready to take care of, that animal could end up abused, neglected or abandoned.

Keeping a pet should be a long-term commitment, for the lifetime of the pet. Some dogs and cats live for more than 20 years. Jorge had some great options, including a gift certificate from the Humane Society.
