Did you know there’s a school in Charlotte that specializes in teaching rock’n’roll? It’s actually in Dilworth and has rooms of guitars, keyboards, drums, microphones, amps, and other gear-- that’s all ready for the next rock star.
The school uses a performance based approach to music lessons, all taught in an interactive environment. School of Rock students are more inspired to learn, more motivated to excel, and more confident as a result. The whole idea is getting kids not just taking lessons and learning notes and chords, but learning songs and playing with other young musicians, as well as getting on stage.
This morning on Larry’s Look, we saw the school in operation and talked to the general manager, Jill Livick. She explained the whole concept of teaching kids as young as 7 years old to explore this opportunity, and how inspiring it is to all of them. Eric Lockwood is a long-time musician and is one of the multi-talented instructors at the school. He even gave Larry a quick keyboard lesson, so he could “jam” with some of the students!
