STACY, N.C. (AP) -- An employee with the North Carolina Aquarium has been bitten by an alligator as he tried to help capture the animal in Carteret County.
Authorities say the worker was treated and released from the hospital after he was bitten on the arm Tuesday. His name was not released.
The worker joined wildlife officials and others trying to capture the 8-foot long alligator that was walking along U.S. Highway 70 near Stacy. Officials were worried both for motorists and for the animal.
The employee was bitten after he dropped a towel over the alligator's head and crept behind the animal, straddling its back legs.
The alligator was eventually captured and released into a Carteret County swamp near Open Grounds Farm.
