MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Authorities have arrested a 15-year-old who they say is one of the main dealers of LSD and other drugs in a Lake Norman distribution ring, according to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.
The teen turned himself into Iredell County deputies late Tuesday evening
The teen is one of five people charged with felony drug charges connected to the distribution of LSD, heroin, marijuana and bath salts to Lake Norman High School students. Officials said the bath salts contained a chemical that causes powerful hallucinations.
Authorities say the four other people arrested were also key distributors of illegal narcotics to numerous high school students.
Elliott Ziegler, a former student, faces the stiffest charges including trafficking in heroin and opium.
His mother, Denise Mingle was also charged with using their home for drug deals. Also arrested on drug charges are Daniel Gilbert Brown and Thomas Jordan Wykoff, both former Lake Norman students.
"This happened at different locations and one of the places the undercover officer was at was her residence during an actual narcotics purchase," said Major Darren Campbell of the Sheriff's Office.
The arrests are the result of a two-month undercover operation in which narcotics detectives bought drugs at several different locations across the Lake Norman area. The investigation began after officials responded to Lake Norman High School for a student who had ingested LSD. The student fought back, injuring two Iredell County deputies.
None of the undercover activity took place on school property, and further education on drug prevention is planned at the school, officials say.
