BELMONT, N.C. -- Students at Belmont Abbey College now have another option when it comes to majors.
The college is offering a motor sports management major. The college used to offer motor sports management only as a concentration, or a minor.
Some students didn't take their first motor sports class until sophomore year.
"When I got here the minor concentration in the motors sports curriculum wasn't too motor sports involved, I guess you could say," said sophomore Justin Swilling.
The class of 2014 will be the first to graduate with the new degree and many believe it will make a big difference in the real world.
"Especially people who are hiring or going through a resume. It draws attention to the eye, because it's not just something you see everyday," according to junior Paige French.
Program director Dr. Travis Feezell says that's true.
"As far as I know we're only one of two programs that have a focus on motor sports management," he said.
The program caters to students who are passionate and on the fast track to a serious career according to sophomore Sarah Slazyk.
"When I go there I look at what are the fans doing, how are they promoting it and I look at from a marketing standpoint. I'm just like...I love it."
