CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- If you've been to the Charlotte Douglas Airport recently, you might have noticed, parking is getting more tricky.
The airport recently demolished both the east and west hourly parking decks to make room for a new hourly parking deck and rental car facility.
The construction is putting a strain on other airport parking lots. Many travelers NBC Charlotte spoke with were frustrated.
"All of the long-term one, two, three were closed. So we had to go to four, which was way out there," said Diana Heft of Elkin.
The Sheffields were picking up their daughter flying in from Boston and were looking for quick, short term parking.
"I was trying to find the hourly parking. I had parked there before and I couldn't find it so, I'm like, it's right there, it's right there and it wasn't," said Eric Sheffield.
The couple ended up in the daily lot. The hew hourly deck will be seven levels with 7,000 parking spots. In the meantime, Charlotte Douglas' Aviation Director suggests customers use the business valet lot.
"Pull inside, walk through this little lobby. Get on the bus and we'll have you at the front door in four minute," said Jerry Orr.
At $10 a day the business valet is cheaper than the former hourly parking. Orr recommends people picking up travelers use the cell phone lot.
The cell lot is free. Some travelers had some advice to those parking at the airport.
"Probably need to get here early, in case you have problems like I did," said area resident Joseph Coffey. The new airport hourly parking deck should be finished in about a year.
