CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A national website named the Queen City as a top 10 spring destination for families in 2013.  Livability.com ranks Charlotte No. 7 on the list.

The site is a online resource that ranks America's best places to live and visit.

To narrow down the list, editors looked at cities with parks, hotels with pools, vacation deals and kid-friendly attractions.  For the Charlotte Regional Visitor's Authority, the ranking isn't surprising.

"We've got the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Discovery Place, the Levine Center for the Arts. And all of those combined in center city make it a walkable, great destination with affordable hotel rates as well," said Laura Hill.

Others NBC Charlotte spoke with were a little more skeptical.

"Only because there's not a beach here.  You know, most of the kids like to go to the beach, go to Myrtle Beach," said Joe Haynes of Lancaster.

Salisbury resident Myra Clark agrees, "anywhere with a beach really, just warm and beach," she said.

However, there is an important distinction on the list. "It's more geared towards family friendly, which is good by us," said Hill.

Some visitors agreed with the list, saying they would consider Charlotte as a spring break destination.

"Charlotte has a lot of amenities I think.  So yeah, I think it'd attract the spring break crowd," said New York resident Clifton Pugh.

No matter, what side of the spring break argument folks fall on, just making the Livability.com list is something Charlotte can hang its on, according to Hill.

"I think it adds to our credibility.  Anytime we're mentioned it the press on national/regional level, we're thrilled to see ourselves there.  And I think we belong there too."
