BESSEMER CITY, N.C. -- A father has been charged after police say his 18-month-old child shot himself in the arm last month in Gaston County.
Officials say the shooting happened inside a home in Bessemer City on South Skyland Drive on December 28.
According to investigators on the scene, an 18-month-old was shot shortly after 8 p.m.
Father Tyvegas Deontee Goode is charged with improperly storing his firearm. Police say he is cooperating with investigators.
In a press release sent to NBC Charlotte last month officials said, "The injury sustained was non-life threatening. The shooting is being investigated as an accident and no foul play is suspected in the incident."
Officials said the child was at home with his father and 8-year-old sibling when the shooting occurred.
