CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Students and staff at one CMS school are celebrating a big milestone.
Grand Oak Elementary held a dedication ceremony Tuesday morning. The school opened its doors this school year and relieves nearby Torrence Creek Elementary, a facility that was once overcrowded.
Grand Oak was built with money from a 2007 bond referendum and is now home to 600 kindergarden through 5th graders.
Both staff and students say it's exciting to be part of new school.
According to principal Ray Giovanelli, "The opportunity to rally created vision of what you want to accomplish and then try to work toward that vision is always exciting for a leader. And now we're at the point where that success is here and we need to build upon that and see what we can do with it."
