HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- The Huntersville Police Department has arrested a Hopewell High School volunteer swim coach accused of an improper relationship with a student.
On Tuesday, Huntersville Police Detectives launched an investigation into David Mackenzie Haynes, 24, after Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Law Enforcement made them aware of the allegations.
Huntersville Police say they found probable cause indicating a relationship did occur, just not on the school's campus.
Investigators say that during one encounter, Haynes provided beer to the student.
On Wednesday, Haynes was arrested and charged with three felony counts of sexual activity with a student and one misdemeanor count of providing alcohol to a minor.
The three sexual activity charges are based on determinations that Haynes had three separate encounters with the juvenile, officials say.
