ATLANTA -- Jimmy Fallon has nailed it.

When he takes over for Jay Leno on The Tonight Show in February, this new dad will essentially be hosting the most successful television franchise in history.

Is he nervous?

“You always get a little nervous. You don’t know what to expect, and I never thought I’d be doing this job,”  said Fallon.

He’ll bring his band “The Roots” with him, but what about guests?

“I like funny people,” he said. “There’s a short list that’s floating around that is pretty good.  I’ve interviewed so many people over five years, and 1,000 shows.”

Fallon says he talked to Leno after accepting his new role and Leno offered advice.

“He was like, you should make the monologue longer because a lot of people watch this and didn’t catch the late night news. They need to know what’s going on in the world.’”

Because of that phone call, Fallon says his monologue will be longer.

“I feel like it’s an obligation for me to make people feel comfortable with me, to let me into their house and bedrooms and fall asleep to me. It’s a giant job, and I feel lucky and honored to be getting this,” said Fallon.

The 39-year-old funny man will also move the show from Burbank to New York City.

NBC Charlotte gave Fallon a Cam Newton jersey for his three-month old daughter, Winnie, when our crews met with him a few weeks ago.

“Oh my gosh, oh my goodness. This is the coolest thing ever,” he said. “Yes, she  will wear a Cam Newton jersey really proudly. She’s going to freak out,” he said.
