CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- John and Jordan Danks have dreamt about playing on the same team in the big leagues their entire lives. Last Sunday, of all days Mother's Day, they found themselves in the same lineup as the Charlotte Knights beat the Pawtucket Sox 6-4.
John, the Knights starting pitcher that day, is on a rehab assignment, recovering from shoulder surgery last year. He's hoping to return to the White Sox soon.
Jordan has been back and forth between Charlotte and Chicago a couple times the last few years.
When asked about their brotherly baseball bond, John said, "Not every brother gets to play with his younger brother. This is amazing!"
Jordan added, "He's definitely been the biggest influence in baseball on me for sure."
Jordan and John grew up near Austin, Texas, and did everything together as kids. Their love of the game and for each other is evident when you speak with them. John says he is Jordan's biggest fan and knows that his little brother will have a long and successful big league career.
Jordan was quick to point out that he and big brother were super competitive growing up, but as they've matured, their appreciation for each other has deepened.
Jordan says, "The day is coming when both will reach the big leagues and we can't wait." John added, "When Jordan got called up for the first time last year, you couldn't help but get nervous for him, that's your kid brother."
The two will likely get to share at least one more Triple A experience in Charlotte together; the Knights are home in Ft. Mill, South Carolina through Friday.
