MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Mooresville police have arrested the man they believe murdered a 29-year-old mother Wednesday.
Officers arrested 26-year-old Ignacio Vazquez at a home near Parkview Elementary just before 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Around noon, police launched a homicide investigation at the woman's town home in the 800 block of Agape Drive after the victim, Alejandrina Marquez Escobar, was found dead. Police said she is Hispanic, but they have not released her name.
A warrant for first degree murder was issued soon after for Vazquez.
Relatives of the victim told NBC Charlotte that Vazquez was known Escobar -- that he was "obsessed with her", "wanted a relationship" and had even "threatened to hurt himself."
Relatives also said Escobar was a mother of a 4-year-old. Police said her child and another child were home at the time of the murder.
Neighbors of the victim told NBC Charlotte Escobar's front door had been kicked-in, and her throat had been slashed.
Vazquez was booked into Iredell County Jail.
