CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A northeast Charlotte elementary school was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning due to police activity in the area.
David Cox Road Elementary School was placed on lockdown around 10:45 a.m. after a custodian said he saw a man in the woods near the school with a gun, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The school is located at 4215 David Cox Road near West Sugar Creek Road.
Officers searched the campus on foot and through the air with the CMPD chopper but made no arrests.
The lockdown was lifted at 12:10 p.m., according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials.
