CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A pedestrian was killed when they ran into the path of a car late Tuesday night in north Charlotte, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

Police said the incident happened shortly after 10:30 p.m. in the  in the 3400 block of Statesville Avenue.

Police said the driver of a 2000 Acura reported that a pedestrian ran into the road, trying to cross from left to right, and was struck by the car.

The pedestrian was taken by MEDIC to Carolinas Medical Center but died at the hospital. The driver and passenger in in the car were uninjured and remained on scene until police arrived.

This case is being investigated by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Departments  Major Crash Investigation Units.Anyone with any information is asked to call Detective Williams at 704-432-2169.
