UNION COUNTY, N.C. -- A Mint Hill man is in custody after leading authorities on a high speed chase through Union County on Thursday afternoon.

Officials say a yellow Chevy work pickup truck led authorities on a high speed chase for about half an hour.

The Union County Sheriff's Office says they first got behind the vehicle because of its speed, but quickly noticed the truck had fictitious tags.

The driver, Marty Benton, led Union County Deputies for about 10 minutes before NC Highway Patrol got involved.

Benton led troopers for about 20 minutes before they were able to end the pursuit.

The scene came to an end on Waxhaw Indian Trail Road near the intersection of Fincher Drive when law enforcement was able to successfully deploy stop sticks.

Benton is in custody.
