CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- One person was killed and a second person was injured in a single vehicle accident in northwest Charlotte on December 3, and now officials have released the name of the victim.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Marvin Sanchez, 36, was killed around 3 a.m. on Bellhaven Boulevard near Ravenswood Road when he lost control of their car and slammed into a utility pole and then an embankment.
Police said the car caught fire after hitting the embankment.
The passenger, Jairo Blanco, was transported by MEDIC to Carolinas Medical Center-Main with non-life threatening injuries.
Two police officers suffered minor injuries during the incident.
Speed and alcohol use appear to be a factor in this case. This case is being investigated by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Units.
Bellhaven Boulevard was briefly closed but police reopened the road around 6 a.m.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
