CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Police say a former CMS teacher shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself earlier this month in northwest Charlotte.

Clyde Bernard Valentine took his own life after killing Ida Victoria Valentine inside a home in the 6400 block of Swift Arrow Lane, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Search warrants obtained by NBC Charlotte had initially indicated that both were murdered.  Official documents said Clyde's mouth was taped shut when officers found his body alongside his wife.

Officers met with Malcom Valentine, the caller who reported the crime, once they arrived on scene. They say Malcom provided them a firearm he had reportedly discovered inside the home.

Malcom told officers that his girlfriend went to the home on Swift Arrow Lane that afternoon around 2 but was unable to get in, saying no one would come to the door. Malcom retrieved his key, and he and Graves returned to the residence. That's when Malcom says he and Graves discovered the bodies of his parents.

Clyde Valentine was a former teacher at Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology until June of this year when he was charged with three counts of indecent liberties with a child. The victim in that case was a relative, not a student.

Valentine was officially terminated from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools on October 30. He was also scheduled to have a hearing a few days after his death in the indecent liberties with a child case.
