Man charged after firing shots at officers during standoff

CHERRYVILLE, N.C. -- Gaston County authorities have a man in custody following an overnight standoff with SWAT and police.

Officers were called to a mobile home on Farmsworth Drive for a domestic disturbance on Sunday. 
Authorities said James Morris Thomas fired several shots at police around 8 p.m.

Gaston County police and SWAT were called to the scene after Thomas barricaded himself inside his mobile home.

Police and SWAT were on the scene all night and early into Monday morning before they were able to take Thomas into custody around 3:30 a.m.

Thomas is charged with nine counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He is being held at the Gaston County Jail under a $1 million bond.

No one was injured during the shooting.
