CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- You know those plastic toys your kids probably play with-- everything from dinosaurs to Smurfs?
The company that makes them just moved their North American headquarters here to Charlotte, and put a lot of people who were unemployed to work.
The German toy company, Schleich, is in the Northlake Mall area.
The distribution center will ship about 400 packages a day, taking advantage of the Queen City’s proximity to major interstates, ports, and the airport.
So far they’ve hired almost 60 people, something the HR manager is thrilled about.
Julie Shaw said, “This last seven years or so, it’s been pretty difficult honestly, local companies have been laying-off.”
Barbara Moore was just hired to work in customer service after having spent more than a year looking for work.
“It was a long time, a long time, and a long journey. I learned a lot. I feel like I’ve landed where I’m supposed to be,” Moore said.
Shaw says she is looking for summer help from high school students in the warehouse. For more information, you can send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
