CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Rodney Monroe’s number one job is making sure the streets of Charlotte stay safe.

But on Thursday night, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief was putting on his dancing shoes for a good cause.  He's part of a Ballroom Battle to raise money for the YMCA.

Other notable people participating in the dance-off include the CEO of Carolinas Healthcare System, Michael Tarwater, and Charlotte Chamber of Commerce President Bob Morgan.

The event takes place Saturday at the Westin hotel in uptown Charlotte.

NBC Charlotte photojournalist Reid Bennett caught up with the chief at practice Thursday.  Click the video player to watch the full report.
