About DopplerPlus
Live Doppler Plus is the most powerful television radar available. The 80-foot tower is located in Gaston County giving us an unobstructed view of the weather from eastern Tennessee to the Carolina beaches.
The 14-foot radar dish generates a narrow radar beam that slices through storms. The radar has two modes of storm detection. The reflectivity mode tells us where rain or snow is occurring. The Velocity mode detects motion inside of the storm, telling us which storms contain rotation and which do not.
Live Doppler Plus can track storms down to the city and street with a timeline to tell you when the storm will arrive in your neighborhood. We can also tell you which storms have a history of hail formation and the size of hail. Rain rates, radar estimated rainfall totals, wind shear and storm top data are also available on Live Doppler Plus.
