NAGS HEAD, N.C. -- Sunday morning it's all about cleaning up in Nags Head after Hurricane Irene.

At 2 a.m. on Saturday Irene's winds tore through the coastal community.  By 8 a.m. fierce winds continued and waves pounded the shore before Irene even made landfall.

At 10:30 a.m. the eye of the storm was still a few hours away from the Kill Devil Hills area, but Avalon Pier was damaged and the conditions were only expected to get worse.

By noon, flooding and the storm surge were concerns just south of Kill Devil Hills in Nags Head as Irene made her way up the coast.
