FORT Mill, S.C. -- Members of the South Carolina National Guard's 1222 Engineer Company (Sapper) in Ft. Mill spent the week preparing to deploy for Hurricane Matthew.
Specialist Ryan Racz said their preparations for the hurricane are bigger and more detailed than last year's storms.
He's looking forward to helping those in need.
"Especially when it's a crisis like this," Specialist Racz said. "I'm definitely proud to be a part of [the National Guard]."
He and his fellow guardsmen prepared and trained on several pieces of heavy machinery, including Bobcat bulldozers, to clear any roads that may be damaged by Matthew.
Specialist Racz said his Company's plans are continuing to be adjusted each hour Matthew moves up the coast.
