PLAQUEMINES, La. -- A contractor died in a possible drowning Tuesday in Plaquemines Parish after the bulldozer he was working in slipped into a pond, according to officials.

The 50-year-old man from Wiggins, Mississippi was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Officials say the incident happened on Highway 23 near Point Celeste.

The contractor was reportedly working in a bulldozer when it fell into a debris covered pond. He was trapped, and while workers were able to pull him out and bring him to the hospital, he was not able to survive.

The man won't be identified until his family is notified.

Officials believe the cause of death is drowning, but an autopsy will be performed Wednesday to confirm.
