CORNELIUS, N.C. -- Boaters planning to head out on Lake Norman are advised to take extra precaution while the water level remains high.

The Lake Norman Marine Commission says an elevated lake level increased the amount of debris in all lakes in the Catawba/Wateree river basin.

Lake Norman is nearly at capacity because of the large amount of recent rainfall.

The LNMC asks boaters to pay close attention and avoid going out on the water between dusk and dawn.

Boaters should also be aware of the their wakes, which can grow larger while water is high and cause damage to docks.
