CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The cold air has moved into the Charlotte region and plans to hang around for a few days.

The sun will  be out today but it will only push temperatures to the mid 50s.

"It will be sunny skies today but cooler for today," forecaster Larry Sprinkle said. "Temperatures will be cooler, in the mid 50s for the high today, a bit of a change from yesterday's temperatures."

This blast of cold air is expected to stay around until Thursday.

Tonight will be  cold with lows overnight dropping into the mid to upper 20s, according to the First Warn Storm Team.

The mountain region will see a chance of snow Thursday before it slowly start to warm up for the weekend.

"A system is tracking toward the northern part of the North Carolina mountains for Thursday," Sprinkle said. "They could see a small dusting of snow and more in the high elevations."

The warm temperatures will return on Friday when high will reach the upper 60s.  The weekend will be mild with highs both days in the mid 60s.
