STATESVILLE, N.C. -- Extreme weather caused a sinkhole to open in a Statesville street.

NBC Charlotte crews found this car partially stuck in the hole on North Center Street.

A few feet of luck was all that kept the hole from swallowing Kyonte Davidson's vehicle.

"It looks to be about 8 to 10 feet deep, 10-by-10 area. Not sure how gar it goes this way or out toward the road," Bradon Medina with the fire department said.

Water is gushing in the ground below the opening. Crews fear gap could cave in further.

North Center Street has been blocked.

Downed power lines and trees also plagued Statesville residents Friday.
