Tropical downpours possible for Monday morning

More scattered storms Monday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- After a hot and humid start to the weekend, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to roll through the Charlotte area to start the week.

Severe thunderstorm warnings came and went for Cabarrus, Iredell, Mecklenburg and Rowan counties through early Sunday evening.

Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich says heavy rainfall and lightning will be the biggest concerns from these storms.

"We've got some big storms that are trying to redevelop along the Mecklenburg County and Union County, down toward Waxhaw," Panovich says.

Panovish says expect warm and muggy temperatures with scattered showers and some heavy storms. He expects a 60 percent chance of severe storms.

"Monday overnight will feel a little tropical," Panovich said.

This comes a little over a week after a home in Mooresville was "fried" after a lightning left a hole in the roof. Last week's storms also left hundreds without power.

Meteorologist John Wendel says more shower is expected through Tuesday morning but the weather should dry out and be less humid from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday.
