I stayed with my parents during the winter storm this week. They have a generator and I didn't want to be stuck home in cold should the power go out. Unfortunately, even as the weather was clearing, the neighbor roads remained icy. Their road is at the top of a rather steep hill which wasn't drivable. Sometime in the afternoon, thirteen neighbors gathered along to the hill with whatever garden tools and shovels they had. It took about an hour, but we hacked and shoveled enough ice to clear a lane allowing people to get home safely.
