Striped bass

Striper / Bluefish off the coast of Mass

These photos are from a fishing trip I took with some business colleagues off of Stellwagen Bank, about 22 miles off the Boston, Massachusetts shore on the private fishing vessel "Deep See".

The Striped Bass was one of dozens we caught that day. But, due to fishery regulations, this monster was still too small to keep. It was a bummer, because these were beauties. The Bluefish were a bit smaller. They are often called the "The mouth that swims!" due to their mouth full of sharp teeth. I caught quite a few of them too.

The owner of the vessel is the CEO of a Boston based engineering firm that does work in the nuclear industry. We were fishing for Bluefin Tuna on the outriggers and trailing gear for "Stripers" and "Blues". We had about $25,000 worth of gear in the water for Bluefin and we used up around $1,500 in fuel and didn't see a single Tuna. But, it was cool. We caught tons of other fish, saw dozens of Humpback whales, and it didn't cost me a dime :)
