Huntersville TLE Held A Day at the Races

The Learning Experience in Huntersville held their 1st Annual Pinewood Derby Race on Saturday, October 6th. Children of all ages and their parents raced for fun and prizes in simple cars they built themselves from kits that contained a block of pine, plastic wheels and metal axles. The winning team led by Abigail Mroz (10 years old) won $500, second-place finisher, Nolan Patterson (3 years old), received $250, and the most creative car design by Wilson Felder (4 years) was awarded $250.

There was something for everyone on race day, including appearances by Denny Hamlin’s #11 FedEx showcar and Bubbles the Elephant, The Learning Experience mascot. There were NASCAR-themed prizes that included tickets to the Sprint Cup Series’ Bank of America 500 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Live radio broadcast by the New 103.7 WSOC, “Country’s Hottest Hits” and tours of the facility took place.
