Charlotte, NC – Friends of KIPP Charter Schools will hold a cabaret fundraiser to benefit music programs in their Charlotte schools Saturday November 28 at the Charlotte City Club at 7pm with special guest artist from Binghamton, NY Jacqlyn Zito.
Zito’s one woman show, "...starry eyed and stormy" explores her past relationships with men on her way to becoming a “star”. With music ranging from Broadway favorites to Janice Ian to Elvis, Zito’s show takes the audience on a journey through the life of a young performer trying to make a relationship work in a world where looks and career goals take precedence over true love.
Originally from Findlay, Ohio, Zito trained at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Louisiana State University as an opera singer and performed at festivals throughout the mid-west and east coast. She settled several years ago in Binghamton, NY where she spent several season as a Resident Artist with Tri-Cities Opera, a company known for training opera stars including Placido Domingo, Richard Leech, and Charlotte native Todd Greer, among many others. When her husband Matthew Edwards, who accompanies her on the piano, found a job as the Executive Director of KNOW Theatre, an upstate theatre company who produces little known works, Zito rediscovered her love of non-classical styles and began reinventing herself as a jazz and cabaret artist, her original passion that sent her to college for music in high school.
The evening will also include music by local favorite Maxie Washington, light dinner, and a cash bar. Tickets are $35 per person and proceeds will benefit the new music program at KIPP Charlotte School. For reservations, call 704-334-3200.
