Lake Wylie family reunited with beloved pet parrot

Zazu flew right out their door when they let their dog outside.

LAKE WYLIE, S.C. — It happened in a flash. Julie Decastro was letting her dog outside when the family's beloved African Grey Parrot, "Zazu" flew right out the door.

DeCastro couldn't believe it.

"And it just that one split second when I let her out and he took off and I didn't realize he (Zazu) could fly that fast," said DeCastro.

The family placed lost posters with contact information around their Lake Wylie Neighborhood, hoping for a safe return.

"We found him one street over... we were seeing him and trying to get him down, and here comes a hawk and chases him away and we couldn't find him again," Decastro said.

Decastro said she and her family would keep searching until they found him, urging anyone in York County who should find Zazu to call the authorities.

"Anything to get him home," added DeCastro. "He's just filled my life with joy, and I really miss him."

Then Wednesday afternoon, Zazu was found in a neighbor's tree -- safe, and very hungry.

Decastro says Zazu is now back at home, eating treats.
