CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A parade of dogs delighted the residents of Elmcroft Senior Living on Tuesday.
With wagging tails, and tongues, the pups provided a much-needed boost of joy, according to Elmcroft's Executive Director Tara Benson.
"We're keeping fun first, and foremost," Benson said. "That's our plan."
Dog treats were also provided, adding a little extra fun to the event.
"Definitely the dogs are having more fun!" Wendy Calinsky said. "I think it's great. COVID has been tough on our residents -- they haven't been able to get out, my mom is here, and even just seeing the dogs coming outside... I think everyone's happy."
Elmcroft activities director Arzu Uranli believes this kind of animal therapy helps the residents remember past days with their own pets.
"Some of our residents used to have dogs, and they miss their dogs so much," Uranli said. "Some of them still have dogs but they can not keep them in the building because of the pandemic."
March 23 is National Puppy Day, providing the perfect date for the event.
