Charlie’s Heart Foundation helps Charlotte family honor son killed in restaurant accident

The mission is to enhance the lives of children and families in need through financial and health education. It’s taking the Holt family all over the world.

A Charlotte family is turning tragedy into a movement to heal hearts all over the world.

The Holt Family started Charlie’s Heart Foundation shortly after their young son’s death. And over the past year, it’s grown to become a lifeline to families in need.

“His favorite song was Justin Timberlake’s 'Can’t Stop The Feeling'. He would jam out to this song all the time,” Rebecca and Michael Holt smiled.

Their son, Charlie, was a vibrant, happy 5-year-old. He died in a tragic accident in April 2017.

The Holt family was enjoying a meal at Atlanta’s popular Sun Dial restaurant when Charlie wandered a few feet away and got trapped between the rotating portion of the restaurant's floor and a wall -- a space just 4-5 inches big.

Losing the little boy was devastating, but the Holt family is choosing to focus on the life Charlie lived.

“How can we spread his love and spread his heart to everyone else,” Michael Holt said.

Charlie’s death gave birth to a movement, Charlie’s Heart Foundation.

“He’s given us a purpose.”

The mission is to enhance the lives of children and families in need through financial and health education. It’s taking the Holt family all over the world.

“It’s what we believe he would have done had he been able to live into adulthood,” said Rebecca.
