Local girl lives dream of being a nurse through Make-A-Wish

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A local girl with a rare blood disorder had her wish come true.

Carrie Wilson knows what it's like to be a child in the hospital. The 14-year-old has sickle cell anemia, but her visit to Novant Health Presbyterian Thursday wasn’t about her disorder. It was about her dream.

Carrie hopes to become a NICU nurse when she grows up.

“Some babies have problems,” Carrie told NBC Charlotte. “I want to be there to solve those problems.”

She got to tour the NICU and talk to the doctors and nurses caring for the tiniest of patients. There was also another surprise for her. She now has her own Reborn doll. They are incredibly lifelike baby dolls, and Carrie has been wanting one to help her prepare for her future career.

It was an emotional experience for both Carrie and her mom, but Carrie says it only makes her more determined to pursue her dreams.
