KANNAPOLIS, N.C. -- A mother is hoping to spread Christmas joy as her family grieves the loss of her 4-year-old daughter.
Aubrie was in Levine Children's Hospital ICU after having a seizure and suffering from cardiac arrest last week. The 4-year-old was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension and Epilepsy. Before her death she was medically paralyzed and her mother, Kenya Blum, said they expected to spend the holidays in the hospital.
But early Monday morning, tragedy struck.
"Aubrie passed away just after 2 a.m.," Kenya said.
Before her untimely death, Aubrie asked her mother for Christmas cards. Kenya was hoping to fill her room with cards when she woke up.
"This girl LOVES Christmas!" said Blum in a Facebook post.
Now, Aubrie's funeral will be held just nine days before Christmas on December 16. In honor of Aubrie's spirit and love of the holiday, her mother hopes to spread Christmas cheer through her daughter's legacy.
The family is asking for those wanting to help, rather instead of flowers or Christmas cards that people donate an unwrapped toy in her honor.
"Her Christmas tree will be displayed (at the funeral) and ready for your kind donations when you arrive," Kenya said.
Aubrie's funeral will be held at Whitley's Funeral Home at 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd. in Kannapolis, North Carolina on December 16 from 10 to 11 a.m.
