2. Catawba County church fire ruled arson

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, Catawba County Fire Marshal’s Office, FBI, and ATF are investigating after hateful messages were found behind a church that went up in flames early Monday morning.

Authorities confirmed to NBC Charlotte the fire is now a case of arson.

3. Explosive testimony in deadly drunk driving trial

The trial for a deadly drunk driving case that shocked the Queen City began Monday with explosive testimony.

Witnesses said 32-year-old Gregory Wheeling was speeding when he hit and killed 28-year-old Kelli Putnam on South Boulevard in January 2016. The defendant was accused of leaving a bar after a Panthers game and driving drunk.

4. Panthers hammer Dolphins in 45-21 victory

Cam Newton threw for 254 yards and four touchdowns, rookie Christian McCaffrey scored touchdowns rushing and receiving and the Carolina Panthers crushed the Miami Dolphins 45-21 on Monday night for their third straight victory.

5. South Carolina named 9th fattest state in America

WalletHub released its 2017 Fattest States in America list, and South Carolina is number nine.

The Palmetto State rounded out the top ten for obesity and overweight prevalence, ranking 13th in highest percentage of obese adults and 6th in adults with Type 2 diabetes.
