CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A 15-year-old was arrested after Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said he opened fire at a southeast Charlotte business, carjacked a woman, and led officers on a chase that ended in a crash Thursday afternoon.
According to CMPD, officers responded to a reported shooting at a business in the 3100 block of Monroe Road around 12:30. Investigators said the 15-year-old suspect, who has not been identified, opened fire after an employee confronted him about a car break-in in the parking lot.
Investigators said the suspect ran from the business before stealing a car at gunpoint on Cranbrook Lane. The victim told 911 dispatchers that a male suspect held a gun to her head, took her keys and drove away in her car.
The suspect then led officers in pursuit until he crashed into a telephone pole on Randolph Road. The suspect was taken to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment. Upon his release, CMPD announced that he will be formally charged in connection with the incident.
Jane Hixson said she relates to the victim because her home was broken into in August.
“You don’t think shock syndrome, but you have it,” Hixson said. “After we were broken into, I was more fearful.
“I’m glad he crashed because he probably needs to be stopped on this path, it’s not a good path.”
Police said no one else was hurt during the incident. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call CMPD Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
