Three felony suspects in custody after high-speed pursuit during rush hour, police say

The pursuit lasted about half an hour before the car was abandoned at Barrington Drive and The Plaza.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Three suspects have been found and detained following a high-speed vehicle pursuit starting just after 5 p.m. in east Charlotte, according to Charlotte Mecklenburg police.

The vehicle, a white sedan, wove through traffic, passing several school buses, officials say. The pursuit lasted about half an hour before the driver lost control and went up onto a curb, ultimately abandoning the car at Barrington Drive and The Plaza.

The driver and two passengers jumped from the vehicle, and police say those three felony suspects are now in custody. The suspects were wanted from a previous crime -- at this time, police have not provided information on that crime.

According to CMPD Broadcastify, police considered using stop sticks. The suspects reportedly had speeds up to 60 or 70 miles per hour as they made their way through heavy traffic during rush hour.

Fortunately, nobody else was hurt in the pursuit.

NBC Charlotte has a crew on the scene gathering more information. Stick with WCNC for the latest on this developing story.
