CMPD investigating west Charlotte shooting

It happened around 9:30 p.m. at Ashley Rd. and Allegheny St. near Harvey's Supermarket.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating after a man was shot in west Charlotte Tuesday night.

On December 4 at 9:47 p.m., a Freedom Division officer on patrol observed a Honda Accord traveling slowly on Ashley Road with a shattered back window.

As the officer began to exit his vehicle to investigate, officials say the driver began shooting a handgun into the air. The officer requested assistance. Once officers arrived on scene, they located a 21 year-old man inside the vehicle with apparent gunshot wounds.

Medic transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment.

Detectives currently believe an incident that occurred at Harding High School may have led to the shooting. Detectives with CMPD are requesting that anyone who may have been at Harding High School or may be familiar with the incident share information with police.

While on scene, officers located a nearby stolen vehicle with a firearm inside. Nazir Lucky, a 19-year-old associate of the victim, was arrested on scene for an unrelated warrant -- possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or 911.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. WCNC will update this as more information becomes available.
