GASTONIA, N.C. – The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating allegations that a Lowell Police officer had an inappropriate relationship with a minor.
The officer, 51-year-old James Blair, was arrested by SBI agents on Thursday and charged with felony statutory rape of a child, and authorities say more charges are expected to be filed.
Blair has been suspended without pay.
The SBI is asking the public to contact them if they have knowledge of any inappropriate contact involving Blair.
Denise Flar lives across the street from Blair and has known him and his family for years.
"I'm in shock. I really am in shock," she said.
Flar's grandson would visit Blair to eat spaghetti and fix his bicycle. She hasn't noticed any inappropriate actions by Blair toward her grandson.
"I would definitely not stop my grandson from going over there," she said. "That's for sure."
Blair's bond was set at $1 million, and he's scheduled to appear in court Friday afternoon.
